PERSONAL PAGE OF KEVIN M. HEALY

This page is dedicated to the Memory of

HOWARD RAYMOND HEALY

Commander, United States Navy  (1899-1942)

USNA Class of 1922

This was a picture of Howard "Pop" Healy when he went through the US Naval Academy with (later) Admiral Richover  (Class of 1922)

This is one of the last pictures of Pop before the Battle of the Coral Sea, May 8, 1942

Pop died at his station aboard USS Lexington CV-2

Below is a copy of the letter from Navy Secretary Knox to my Grandmother.  News of the    loss of the LEX had to wait until after the Battle of Midway so that the Japanese would not know that the Lady Lex had passed.  As such, this notification letter was held off.

My dad (wearing the Purple Heart), Howard R. Healy, Jr.,  was only 8 when he lost his dad.  Here he is seen at the launching of the USS Healy  DD-672 on July 4, 1943

Here is a news article of the launching. Dad got to go aboard HEALY for the ride.

To see an excellent scale model of this fine ship, please click on this link; this was handmade by COL Thomas Hathaway in 2008

Below is one of the last wallet photos Pop had of his sons, Howard and Baby Mike:
